I'm desperately trying to get back on a daytime sleeping schedule, but it's just not happening. I bought some melatonin today on our "shop for the week" trip to Central Market, but didn't get around to taking it. Rather, instead of taking it before bed at a reasonable time, I fell right into nap-land around 6pm, and just woke up now, a bit after 1am. It was actually the tasty greasy dinner I made tonight (spicy fried chicken chunks and baby portabellas) that whomped me into unconsciousness, or maybe it was the getting up at 5am or so.

But, the waking up? That was our new upstairs neighbors. Sounds like someone is moving their stuff in up there - at 1am. Maybe they're setting up a meth lab or something. In this place, it wouldn't surprise me. All sorts of crazy shit going on, and it gets crazier as the units fill up. But as far as I can tell, it's just fairly walking around and normal stuff going on up there right now; I can tell, because I can hear every goddamn sound that they make, loud enough to get me out of bed. This must be god hating me for keeping Robin awake with our sitting and our breathing back in San Francisco. Which is pretty wrong, because I specifically asked the apartment manager about inter-apartment noise before we moved in, and she said that you couldn't hear anything. She said that there were construction workers doing their thing in the apartment above her, and she never heard a sound. Just between you and me, I think that she was LYING. We've just been lucky not to have anyone above us for the last three months or so. Now, the real hating starts.

Well, we're slowly gearing up our search for a house to buy down here. Prices are pretty reasonable, and I'm interested in getting out of this apartment as soon as possible. We've got a six month lease, but at this point, I feel pretty comfortable telling them to go fuck themselves. Paper-thin walls, rats and roaches, the shower going from freezing to burning in a second, cupboards falling off their hinges, bad wiring, no circulation, no light, and strange algae or rotting smells that manifest themselves every now and then. Oh, yeah, and the scumbag apartment management. We're so out of here.
